Crafting, quality and enchanting
Quality odds, journals, artifacts, and upgrading with runes, souls and relics.

Return rate when crafting
Crafting uses the same return-rate rule as refining, with smaller city bonuses: 18% base in any Royal city, plus 15% in the cities that specialize in that item type. That works out to 24.8% back without focus and 47.9% with focus in the right city.
Each city specializes in a list of items. Lymhurst, for example, gets the bonus for swords, bows, arcane staffs, leather helmets and leather shoes; Caerleon for tools, food and gathering gear; Brecilien for capes, bags and potions.
Quality odds
Every crafted item rolls a quality. With no bonuses, the game's data gives these odds:
| Quality | Chance | Extra IP |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 68.9% | +0 |
| Good | 25% | +20 |
| Outstanding | 5% | +40 |
| Excellent | 1% | +60 |
| Masterpiece | 0.1% | +100 |
Focus adds +50 quality, and so do Destiny Board nodes and crafting food. More quality means extra chances at a better roll, and the best one counts.
Journals: profit that fills itself
Empty crafting journals cost about 2,000 silver at T4 from a laborer. Carry one while you craft and it fills with your crafting fame. A full journal can be sold on the market or given to a laborer, who turns it into resources over about 22 hours.
Artifacts never come back
Artifact items (the ones that make special weapons and armor) are marked in the game's data as never returned. The return rate only discounts the normal resources in a recipe.
Enchanting with runes, souls and relics
You can raise a finished item one enchant level at a time: runes take it from .0 to .1, souls from .1 to .2, relics from .2 to .3. A .4 can only be crafted. How many you need depends on the item size (from the game's item data):
| Item | Runes, souls or relics |
|---|---|
| Two-handed weapon | 384 |
| One-handed weapon | 288 |
| Chest armor, bag | 192 |
| Helmet, shoes, off-hand, cape | 96 |

- Craft what sells: check sales per day before making 200 of anything.
- Specialize: spec lowers focus cost a lot, so a few deep lines beat many shallow ones.
- Use the right city: the 15% city bonus plus focus is the difference between 25% and 48% returned.
- Compare the Black Market and the city buy orders: the best exit for the same item changes daily.
